St. Joseph High School's Quiz Bowl Team won 1st Place in the Regional Tournament held March 2nd at Conway Christian School. The competing teams included Conway Christian, Cutter Morning Star, Gurdon, Magazine and Mt. Vernon/Enola. Conway Christian came in 2nd while Cutter Morning Star finished 3rd.
"The kids competed admirably," Coach Shade Gilbert said."They showed great sportsmanship and class. It was a team effort with all students contributing." They did so without the regular assistance of senior Carolina Ferrer who couldn't participate due to a conflicting event.
Senior Bryce Mallett made the All-Tournament team for St. Joseph as did Conway Christian's Shamuel Gill and Kade Williams. Players had to average answering five or more questions per game to qualify for the All-Tournament Team. Bryce led all contestants with a 13.2 average. He was also named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
St. Joseph personnel who assisted with logistics included Matthew Tucker, Karen Davis, Phyllis Eubanks, Nicholas Kailen, "Lum" Wilhite and Tim Nabholz. The team now moves on to the State Tournament at Magnolia Middle School on April 13th.
