St. Joseph High School senior Garry "Alex" Lehmkuhl was recently recognized by St. Joseph Boy Scout Troop 78 with the presentation of his Eagle rank. It's the highest honor a Boy Scout can receive. He earned 55 merit badges in the process and also received six palm awards that are only given after completing Eagle Scout requirements.
The Eagle rank was first established in 1912. Since then, only two percent of Boy Scouts reach it. Troop 78 began in 1943 and produced its first Eagle Scout 20 years later. That went to Mr. Frank Hiegel who was present for Alex's ceremony.
During his time in scouting, Alex has also become a member of its Order of the Arrow. Only the most dedicated scouts are eligible who excel at living the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. He demonstrated such qualities with the completion of his Eagle Scout project by improving the heating and air conditioning system in the St.Joseph Flea Market building. Alex is the son of Garry and Jeanne Lehmkuhl of Mayflower.
