In its first year of existence, the St. Joseph Junior High Quiz Bowl Team recently qualified to compete in the State Tournament to be held Saturday, February 15, at the North Arkansas Community College in Harrison. The team was able to achieve this by finishing in 3rd Place at the Regional Tournament held in Bigelow on February 1st. The players had earlier done well in tournaments at Little Rock Southwest High School and White Hall High School near Pine Bluff.
At the Regional Tournament, St. Joseph finished behind Conway Christian and Hector. Their wins included matches with Danville, Palestine-Wheatley and South Side Bee Branch. Seventh grade team members Tyson Mallett and Drew Nabholz qualified for the All-Tournament Team. "To qualify for that selection, students must average five correct answers for all games in which they compete," Coach Shade Gilbert said.
