St. Joseph kindergarten celebrated their 100th day of school this week! "The entire day was spent working with the number one hundred. Some of the fun activities included: one hundred exercises, filling gumball machines with one hundred gumballs, building a tower to create the number one hundred, stacking one hundred foam cups, making a 100s days trail mix with 10 pieces of ten snacks, a writing prompt of what they would buy if they had $100, and many many more fun things. Students even brought in something from home to show one hundred of something-beads, ribbons, Dinos, seashells, Cherrios, rocks, all kinds of things. It was an amazing day celebrating being 100 days smarter!" commented Mrs. Hefley. What fun!

St. Joseph 9th grade Civics class learned a lot on their field trip to Faulkner County Justice Building and Detention Center on January 24. "Judge Troy Braswell and Prosecuting Attorney Carol Crews spoke to the students about jury duty and the types of courts -juvenile, drug, and criminal. They told us Arkansas is one of four states where the jury decides the sentence for someone convicted of a crime. We were given a tour of the detention center, even seeing how the inmates live. The highlight was getting to see two training officers being tased. I think the students learned a lot about the court system," commented Mrs. Karen Vandivere, SJHS Civics Teacher.

St. Joseph Kindergarteners have been busy! "Kindergartners wrapped up their Native American unit this week. One tribe they learned about was the Lakota Sioux. The students learned how important buffalo were to this tribe. It’s how they had food, shelter, tools, clothing, toys/instruments, etc. This tribe was known to live in teepees so that they could easily move their homes as they followed the buffalo herd. The kids made their own versions of teepees out of tortillas. The teepees were even decorated with Native American symbols. They learned a lot and loved making their own teepee!" explained Mrs. Hefley, Kindergarten Teacher. Great job, Bulldogs!

The ACT test scores for the Class of 2024 surpass both state and national averages, thanks to the rigorous curriculum, dedicated teachers, and diligent students at St. Joseph. The accompanying graphs illustrate the average ACT scores by subject, as well as the percentage of students who achieved college readiness benchmarks. The average composite score ranks us in the top 3% of schools with fewer than 50 graduates and in the top 1% overall.
We invite you to join us for our annual open house event, the SJS Showcase, on January 26 from 2 to 4 PM. Enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year opens at 10 AM on February 3rd.

At St. Joseph Elementary, the 1st grade class is doing "Mary on the Mantel," a special project for kids to do with Mary during the Advent season to prepare for Jesus. "Last week, she gave us lots of chores to do throughout the week at school and home. One chore was to raise money for animals. First Grade had a coin drive, and we brought in $500 with the help of Hounds Hideaway matching what we raised!" comments Mrs. Hoyt, 1st grade teacher. They decided to help pets in need by giving a check to Hartman Animal Hospital on Friday. Pictured is Carly-Anne Moix and Gianna Lee giving the donation to Megan Hartman. Great work, 1st graders!

The Food Prep students made homemade cakes, and Anatomy students decorated the cakes to create a display of skin and all of its structures using candy, labeling each part. To top it off, they ended class with a delicious piece of cake!

CONGRATULATIONS to Seniors Kate Nabholz and Daniel Trusty, who were chosen to represent St. Joseph School at this year's Conway Area Youth Leadership Institute (CAYLI)!
The Conway Area Youth Leadership Institute represents a cooperative effort between UCA Outreach & Community Engagement, Faulkner County Leadership Institute, and school districts throughout Faulkner County. It's goals are to develop leadership potential within 11th and 12th grade students, address the challenges and opportunities of the community and expose students to avenues for community involvement and improvement. Students attend a two-day, overnight retreat and seven monthly sessions, which include topics on human services, education, media/technology, healthcare, work world/economy, government/court system, and environment/agriculture. A community service project is a vital part of the curriculum.
