Ms. Alicia Yrle and Ms. Piper Mullaney, St. Joseph High School English teachers, attended a workshop with Dr. Paul Menzer, who is the inaugural Folger Chair in Shakespeare Studies, Professor and Executive Director of Shakespeare and Performance at Mary Baldwin University, as well as the author and editor of numerous books. Menzer's work explores how Shakespeare has been performed, remembered, adapted, and mythologized across time.
"Dr. Menzer's talk focused on the importance of anecdotes and what they reveal about the actors and audiences of Shakespeare's plays, as well as what they can reveal about the plays themselves. Dr. Menzer also discussed the anecdotes behind Christopher Marlowe's Dr. Faustus. His book, Anecdotal Shakespeare, is one of the texts being studied in Dr. Paige Reynolds's class Shakespeare Now at the University of Central Arkansas," explained Mrs. Yrle, English Department Chair.

At St. Joseph Middle School, fourth graders have been learning all about personal narratives and even wrote their own this week! "Students learned what a personal narrative is and read several different examples. They learned about sensory details, cause and effect, and figurative language, like similes and metaphors. Students finished out this unit by writing their own personal narrative about a special experience. They worked through the editing process and then shared their finished paper by reading it to the class," explained Mrs. Fullerton, Fourth Grade Teacher. #FaithLearningLiving

At St. Joseph Middle School, 5th graders in Mrs. Gooch's Science class became "Matter Detectives" as they rotated through several stations to investigate different properties of matter. "It was wonderful to see students making predictions, testing their ideas, discussing their observations, and using evidence to explain what they discovered!" commented Mrs. Gooch. #FaithLearningLiving

This year, the St. Joseph Cheer team, led by Cheer Coach Mrs. Anna Schichtl, is selecting a teacher a week to highlight and give their bear “Goldie” to. This week they choose Ms. Eubanks! “I chose Ms. Eubanks as the teacher of the week because she goes out of her way to make the students feel loved, and this is not just sometimes, she does this ALWAYS! She is so kind and will always make it known that you having a good day matters, your opinions matter, and YOU MATTER! The Juniors had a special day on Monday picking out class rings! "The class ring is more than just a piece of jewelry. It represents memories, friendships, accomplishments, and the special years these students have shared at SJHS," comments Mrs. Martinez, Jr. Class Sponsor.

On Friday, Father John led the first adoration of the year at the Elementary! "The students learned how to pray in the presence of Jesus, about the stole a priest wears, how to properly genuflect and more!" commented Mrs. Belew, St. Joseph School Assistant Principal. Thank you Fr. John for leading our little bulldogs closer to Christ!

On Tuesday, 4th grade celebrated our Blessed Mother Mary's birthday with singing, cake, and a gift. "Her present from us will be one kind act at home or school. After Mass, we will put our gifts to Mother Mary in the grotto," explained Ms. Hoyt, 4th Grade Teacher.

At St. Joseph Elementary, our Kindergarten classes started their illustration unit in writing last week! "We are learning that we can create people, places, and objects out of shapes. We wrapped up last week by drawing some of our favorite people," explained Mr. Bailey, Kindergarten Teacher. Way to go, Bulldogs!

At St. Joseph High School, seniors in Mr. McCrary’s World History Class played the Civilization game to kick off the year. "This game simulated from 'hunters and gathers' all the way to the modern era. The students had to make decisions on where they would live, what they would build, and how they would govern and provide for their neighbors/citizens. The game previews everything that world history is about, from survival to the creation of complex societies. For the first time ever playing this game, there was a tie for first place!" commented Mr. McCrary, Social Studies Department Chair and World History Teacher. At St. Joseph Elementary, our first grade students and teachers spent the afternoon celebrating as Q and U tied the knot!
"In phonics, we learn that Q is never without U, so we decided to make it official! Our students got to watch Q and U say 'I do' and then celebrate with a fun wedding reception! Father Booker helped us officiate the ceremony, and Mrs. Covington and her wonderful fiancé Evan helped us out as well.
The dance floor was definitely the place to be, and our first graders danced their hearts out!
We had SO much fun celebrating our favorite phonics pair and making these sweet memories together!" explained Mrs. Hannah Yrle, 1st Grade Teacher.

At St. Joseph Elementary this week, the kindergarten classes have been learning how to respectfully make the sign of the cross. In order to do this, they made “cross buddies” so that they can show others how to correctly make the sign of the cross.

Our 6th grade scientists have been hard at work this week!
