The 16th Annual Kids Run Arkansas, presented by Conway Regional Health and Fitness Center, was held on April 19. The run promotes fun and fitness by rewarding area schools with scholarships for their physical education programs based on the highest participation percentage of each school. The participants competed on a 1-mile or 3-mile run or walk along Tucker Creek.
The scholarship checks were awarded at the fitness center on May 14 to each school's physical education teacher. St. Joseph School won 1st Place for which Brent Bruich accepted $3,500. Laurel Brashers was handed the 2nd Place scholarship of $2,750 for Jim Stone Elementary. Woodrow Cummins Elementary finished in 3rd Place with Sarah-Catherine Orahood receiving its $2,250 prize. Kobie McKnight took a $1,000 scholarship back to Conway Christian for its 4th Place standing while Julia Lee Moore Elementary's Gus Wright was given a $500 check for 5th Place.
Along with the recipients, Fitness Center Director Jeramie Hinojosa (far right), Experience Manager Amanda Castillo (far left), and Fitness Manager Mallory Lefler (in front of Castillo) presided. Also present were Reggie, the Conway Regional Health System Mascot, Sunny the Squirrel, the Mascot for Groovy Smiles Pediatric Dentistry which is the Run's title sponsor, and Woodrow Cummins students Lakyn Lefler and Hayden Hill.
As a footnote, out of the 16 years the Kids Run has taken place St. Joseph has had the largest percentage of attendance for 15 of them!
